Adult Mental Health
HASCAS has considerable experience in all matters relating to Adult Mental Health. Ian Allured leads this area of work and through his own career in CAMHS and Adult Mental Health and via our staff, expert advisers and associates working in all areas of health and social care, including service users and carers can access a vast range of experience and expertise.
During the past 18 months from April 2006 to the end of September 2007 we have worked with a variety of services undertaking commissions including:
- The project management and report writing of four internal serious untoward incident investigations (three homicides and one suicide)
- An independent review of a serious untoward incident in an acute trust (a suicide)
- Examining the commissioning arrangements for three PCTs and making recommendations for their improvement
- A review of six suicides in a year in one London Borough with recommendations for learning the lessons and for root cause analysis reports to be shared across the local mental health services
- Developing a mental health strategy for a commissioner in the North West of England
- A continuing care review for 20 patients being moved to alternative accommodation from their current NHS long stay ward, with ‘pen’ pictures of their current and likely future needs identified for their potential new carers
- Review of psychological therapies in a service covering a complete county and the counselling services provided by the PCT and voluntary agencies
- Training a range of NHS, Local Authority and Voluntary Agency staff on the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and developing the policy for a large mental health trust
- Working with the Ministry of Defence and a service charity to improve and broaden the range of services available to veterans suffering from mental health problems caused or exacerbated by their active service
- Running focus groups of service users and carers to help the National Audit Office undertake a review of the Crisis and Resolution Services across the country
- Reviewing the literature and producing literature about the best practice in the treatment of mental illness by a combination of psychological therapies and medication on behalf of the Association of British Pharmaceutical Industries.
In addition HASCAS is leading a Department of Health funded project to help PCTs and their partner agencies to develop integrated and sustained social inclusion in Adult Mental Health (for more information see the Section 64 Grant page).
