Black and Minority Ethnic Mental Health Carers Project
The Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) Mental Health Carers Project is the result of a successful bid to the DH Section 64 grants. The funding has allowed HASCAS to employ a national coordinator, specifically to work on this project. Initially the funding was allocated for three years, but this has been extended, so the project will continue at least until 2006-7.
The aim of the project is to promote and coordinate the role of BME carers in mental healt across England by:
Community Champions Training Resource
Consultation with BME carers early on in the project identified a need for some basic training and education, to enable carers to understand their rights and responsibilities and to provide information about the organisations they will be dealing with, as well as helping to develop some of the skills needed to be effective in doing that.
The training has been designed to be straightforward and helpful, with the ability to be adapted to suit different groups and situations.
Sharing good practice
